Good find Hans, I reduced the size of your two images above slightly to 900 pixels wide to prevent page overflow. I'll update the index table with your latest finds tomorrow. Regards, Pat
Hi Hans, Below is an updated table showing the 42 new frames in black text which you have found between post #91 and your last post #103 above: <iframe src="http://www.normandy.whitebeamimages.ie/ncap/un-locatables_found/sortie_us7gr_1730/html_table_for_ncap_unlocatables_found_sortie_us7-1730_index3.html" width="830px" height="400px"> frameborder="2" </iframe> Can I ask you to check the following links please? Post #94 - Your link titled '4049' is pointing to frame 3049 Post #102 - Your link titled '4083' is pointing to frame 3056 Post #102 - Your link titled '3058' is pointing to frame 8076 I have omitted from the count above of 42 new discoveries frames: 3022, 4023, 8026, and 8029 mentioned in your post #96 as these have been found already earlier in this thread. If I have counted correctly, there are now 89 'un-locatables' from sortie US7GR/1730 found from a total of 239 originals - or 37% and the three stray links may bring this figure up further when checked. Many thanks again Hans for your great effort on behalf of all Forum members. A very fine job of work indeed :exclamation: Regards, Pat

Hi to All, starting here with a search result from Fold3. The picture shows Lt. Col. Clarence A Shoop to the left, Capt. Hubert M Childress in the center. Both are mentioned as pilots from US7 a D-Day. Lt. Col. Clarence A Shoop with sortie US7/1730 and Capt. Hubert M Childress with sortie US7/1746, as listed here: Post #7. To the right is Maj. Carl J Chapman. The picture was taken after a sortie to Paris after its liberation. Image Credit: Fold3 [http://www.fold3.com/image/54827502/]
Ranville 3 more frames resolved. Image credit is NCAP Frame 4060 Frame 4053 Frame 4054 All 3 frames can be located to the area of Ranville. See here the pictures from Sortie US7/1730 in the morning hours of 6June1944, overlayed in GE.
GE & IGN & NCAP Overlay Some small updates here. Because GE has a low resolution between Courseulles-sur-Mer and Asnelles I have started doing overlays with IGN Cover from 1960 and US7 1730 sortie frames to point to new locations in this area. One example here. To-Be-Continued in 3 weeks after my trip to overseas. Image Credit IGN Cover from 1960 and NCAP frame 3057 4084

Smoke is rising from burning gorse bushes, set ablaze as troops fight their way ashore. Here the same scene in an overlay from IGN 1960.
Thanks Hans, This is the area where CSM Stan Hollis, 6th Green Howards won the VC on D-day for single handled taking several German strong points behind the beach with just a sten gun and grenades. Regards, Pat
Arromanches-les-Bains - Asnelles - La Gronde Rau - Le Paisty Vert - Courseulles-sur-Mer - Bernieres-sur-Mer Hi All, updates from the last work around overlays. Starting from Frame Pair 3053 / 4080 down to the Frame Pair 3069 / 4105 (ending port side pictures) down to the Frame Singe 4107 in Bernieres-sur-Mer. I have positioned all of them onto the IGN Cover from 1960 into GE. Colors indacate the 2 runs from east to west down to Arromanches-les-Bains and back to the east at Bernieres-sur-Mer. All frames are positioned into the overlay except 4100, for which I will add later extra info. Here are the different screens showing the overlays. Frames are connected with a polygon. Green is east to west and red the opposite. Source Credit : GE, NCAP and IGN
Hi All, here are the latest updates. On the red path starting in Arromanches-les-Bains towards La Gronde Rau we have on single frame showing Frame 8082 Arromanches-les-Bains. I added this frame together with the already identifed ones in the GE IGN NCAP overlay. Image Credit: GE, IGN NCAP. Next is a series of starboard frames only which follow the red path and mark the start of La Gronde Rau coming in from Asnelles going east. Frame 4090 has no associated other frame within US7 1730, but can be identified with Frame 4032 from US7 1733. Next is a series of 3 frames, e.g. frame 4091, 4092 and 4093 going deep into La Gronde Rau. Frame 4091 is a single and relates to Frame 8083. Frame 4092 is a single and relates to Frame 8084. Frame 4093 is a single and relates to Frame 8085. I mounted them into the different overlays onto the red path. Image credit: GE, IGN, NCAP Close or at Courseulles-sur-Mer are also 3 more adds on the red path. Frame 3068/4103 and frame 4106. Frame 3068 / 4103 are west of Courseulles-sur-Mer at the beaches of Graye. I could locate them with frame 3128 from RCAF squardon 400 sortie 0197 on 4June1944. Frame 4106 is loacted east of the habor in Courseulles-sur-Mer. Frame 4107 is located in Bernieres-sur-Mer. Will add a mount later with more frames in this area. I mounted the Graye frames and the Courseulles-sur-Mer frames in an overlay.Image credit: GE, IGN, NCAP. . This leaves just a few singles from the US7 sortie 1730 as unlocated including the 'ship' frames at the beginning of the sortie and frame 4100 which I was not able to find the exact spot so far. tbc

Cricqueville-en-Bessin and Ranville Hi All, no success so far with Frame 4045 somewhere near by Caen Frame 4046 somewhere on the way to Basse Ecarde Frame 4047 somewhere on the way to Basse Ecarde however success with Frame 4032 Frame 4033 Frame 4034 and Frame 4061 Here they are. Source: NCAP Frame 4032 Frame 4033 Frame 4034 Here they can be seen in a IGN Cover from 1955. Source: IGN. Frame 4032 is the most western location, the 2 other frames follow to the east. I placed the 3 frames together with 2 frame pairs 3030/4030, 3031/4031 and 3035 on a GE map. Frame 4061 can be seen here as the most western location of the southern track of frames capturing the gliders at Canal de Caen and River Orne. Source: GE and NCAP. Here is the other more north located series of frames in this area. I added frame 4048 and 4049 into the overlay for completeness. They are the 2 ones at the west. The US7 sortie 1730 from Lt. Col C.A. Shoop was 1st traversing Canal de Caen and River Orne to capture the gliders with this northern track turning back into the southern track and than heading of to La Roque area and Port of Ouistreham. tbc
Caen and Touffreville Hi All, progress (after days of unsuccessful search). I found 2 frames east of Caen close to Touffreville, also one port and 3 starboard frames. Here are the 2 frames from Touffreville. Source: NCAP Frame 4045Frame 4046 These 2 frames have 2 starboard frames associated with them. Frame S0038Frame S0039 Here is a detailed look with the direction in which the 2 starboard frames can be found. Source NCAP and GE. GE NCAP Overlay
Here are the frames resolved in Caen Frame P0052 Frame S0037 Here is the GE NCAP overlay with the port view towards frame P0052 Here is the GE NCAP overlay with the starboard view towards frame S0037 Here is the path between Caen and La Basse Ecarde as I have it today. 2 frames are still open to allow 'over land' frame be frame plotting the path of the sortie. Frame 4036 between Englesqueville and Bayeux. Frame 4047 between Touffreville and La Basse Ecarde I keep searching but the possibilities are infinitive. If someone has an idea where to look the would help a lot.
Frame 4047 = Touffreville Hi All, after I figured out how to open after download ('telecharger') a IGN *.JP2 file format I could search the area around Touffreville with a 1947 cover in much better resolution compared to zooming into the frames. Such I could resolve frame 4047 as being exactly located next to frame 4046. Leaves as the last to resove frame 4036 with a location 'over land'.
Port de Ouistreham Overlay Work Hi All, I have mounted all the frames around Port de Ouistreham in an GE IGN 1947 overlay and visualized the path. Sources: GE, IGN 1947, NCAP Here is the path reconstructed between Caen, Touffreville and Port de Ouistreham. Sources: GE, IGN 1947, NCAP
Hi Hans, Excellent work - well done! This is a huge addition to not just us here on the Forum, but also all NCAP customers who wish to study this important sortie. A huge effort on your part and very much appreciated by the rest of us. Regards, Pat
