Hi John, You will be able to do a very comprehensive American sector tour in a week. Are you going to hire a guide or go it alone? If the latter, get yourself a good sat-nav unit or phone app with pre-programmed locations saved to it. The laneways have no signage at the junctions and you can waste a lot of time if you take a wrong turn. Regards, Pat
Hello John, As Pat has said, the end of June/early July period isn't that busy (relatively), weekends excepted. Even then, on a nice day the beaches may be busy but they're all large enough for amphibious landings so there's always space somewhere... and then of course there's so much more to this than the beaches, important as they were. The advantage of coming that time of year is that it's environmentally appropriate, eg the hedgerows are thick with foliage... Again, to concur with Pat, either a guide (the best option, of course) or decent navigation system/maps (1:25000) are essential. Drop me a line, either PM or email, if you like. Cheers, Sean
Hi Pat and Sean, I plan on traveling alone and I wanted to find a nice gite or cottage (but also somewhat inexpensive) in the area between Carentan / Sainte mere Eglise / Utah beach. I don't need a hotel or fancy resturants. I plan on hiring either you Sean, or Paul Woodadge, because I wanted to at least meet Paul once. At about $800 a day and for a solo tour, I couldn't afford much more than one day touring. So I wanted to keep the tour to the airborne area because I was figuring if I had to roam and navigate Utah and Omaha beach alone I could manage that. although I would love to spend additional days with Sean or Paul, whether touring, exploring, or researching if I could. Sean If I did hire Paul, maybe you would want to take the day off and tag along? Anybody there would be welcome to tag along as well. I think I can pretty much create my own airborne itinerary for the tour right? John
Hi All, John, one of my work colleagues, is a very accomplished cartoonist and has presented me with a cartoon strip of his take on 'Pat's Irish Tour': I can assure readers that I look nothing like the Patton character standing on the soap box with the riding whip. As John has only recently got himself hitched, there is no point in suing him Full resolution copy is viewable here (2.2MBs). Regards, Pat
Hi Allan, It was just the one night I made them sleep in hole and it wasn't even raining Regards, Pat
