Seventy five years ago on June 5,1944, my father was tasked to fly alone under cover of darkness and strict radio silence to “see if anything was going on in the English Channel”. It was an extraordinary sight and one he never forgot. He was able to report the invasion was indeed underway. The following day, June 6th active patrols began in earnest. No enemy aircraft were sighted but as Charlie described: “ that was good as we were busy enough dodging the barrage balloons”. A time to remember. Ellen
Yes indeed Ellen, A time to remember... Seeing those veterans sailing for Normandy on the news this evening sent a shiver through me. I hope everyone over there tomorrow will give them the space they need to lift the mask of time i their minds' eye. The day is theirs. Regards, Pat
