I am the nephew of General Anthony McAuliffe. (His initials are my user name, ACM.) I have been researching his life since 1994 when I went into retirement. I would guess that I know about him than anyone else in the world!! I don't have any on-going research regarding his activity during Normandy, but I will regularly be looking at the Forum for tidbits of information I can use. If you have any questions about ACM, just ask. Ken McAuliffe
Welcome Ken. I have a couple of pictures of your uncle that I have never seen published before. Maybe they have, but I have never seen them. Check out the thread here and tell me if you have seen them published before. http://normandy.whitebeamimages.ie/forum/showthread.php?tid=138
The first five pix are from March 23, 1944 at Welford, England. They are stills of the airborne demonstration given by the 101st for Generals Eisenhower and Bradley and Prime Minister Churchill. Video of that event is available on the Internet at CriticalPast.com. I have never seen the last photo of the color guard. I agree it does look like a bunch of other pix from Bragg/McCall. Ken
Here is a photo from Fort Bragg with a similar color guard. Note: There are 10 generals in this photo! The person on the right is a colonel.
Thanks Ken. I didn't know they were taken from a video. I found them in an envelope that was addressed to our house that we haven't lived in for over 50 years.
I'm not sure they were taken from the video. There were probably a slew of still photographers on the scene also. Ken
