My name is Allan Hillman - I am retired, living in Cornwall/UK, and now have more time for my hobby - the history of 125 Airfield/Wing (83 Group, 2nd Tactical Air Force) from June 1943 - July 1945 and its constituent squadrons, which during the Normandy period were 132 (City of Bombay) Squadron, 453 Squadron RAAF, 441 (Silver Fox) Squadron RCAF and 602 (City of Glasgow) Squadron Auxiliary Air Force. My late father served with 125 Airfield/Wing from RAF Ford to B.172 Husum, via B.160 Kastrup/Copenhagen, and then when 125 Wing disbanded he was moved back to B.160 Kastrup/Copenhagen to 122 Wing, before continuing his post-war service with BAFO in Germany and elsewhere. We joined him in Singapore and France, which was very enjoyable. I hold the complete 125 Wing Operational Record Book, so I can provide information on the Normandy period and I have visited a lot of the Wings Advanced Landing Grounds in France, Belgium and Holland – which have reverted back to their original farmland in most cases. For reasons of my research I like to use the name allan125 on relevant websites, and I am a contributor on Twelve O’clock High, RAF Commands, and the Key Aviation Forum, to name a few. I have also proof read drafts and assisted with research of numerous publications, the latest being "Blood, Sweat and Valour" by Steve Brew, volume 2 of the WW2 history of 41 Squadron, with volume 1 to follow in a few years - so my knowledge is pretty reasonable, and I am happy to share my knowledge and interest with others. Hi Allan, You are very welcome to the Forum. From your work on other forums I know you will fit right in here and I sure am glad to have a close neighbour keeping an eye on things. I note from your emails today that we even have the same weather passing over at more or less the same time It's also good that Sean and I have someone else to talk Spitfire with - the rest of the gang here think the P-51 won the War :dodgy: Regards, Pat
Hi Patelie Many thanks - shouldn't that be the Mustang and Dakota , and the Mustang only came good after they fitted a Packard Merlin instead of the Allison!! Allan
