    Hi,

Thanks to John Richardson who is currently working on a book relating to No. 18 Squadron, RAF during the Fall of France, I have been able to add another great resource of online images and documents. CEGES-SOMA is a Belgian site with English, French and Dutch language options.

I have yet to figure out a more polished way of searching it's database of images but here is a 'rough and ready' method which does work:

    Go to:

    http://www.cegesoma.be/cms/catalogue_en.php

    Click on:

'To consult the online catalogue Pallas'

Check 'all combined' on the left

    Check 'Photo library' on right

Type your search term in search box, such as Normandy

Now here is the problem; each link shows how many images it has but clicking on the link only produces one image. Here is my crude work-around - change the five digit number of the photograph in your web browser address by one digit to bring up a new picture.

For example, http://pallas.cegesoma.be/pallas/servlet/gisc?vn=74756 shows an eboat under way. Changing the last digit from '6' to '7' and hitting the [Enter] key brings up a picture of two German cooks carrying loafs of bread past a stable. Crude, but it works.

There are some great photographs in the collection which I have never seen before. Of the small number I have so far viewed, they appear to be German photographs taken in the British/Canadian sector of Normandy.

If anyone can come up with a more polished method of viewing the collection, please enlighten us

    Regards,

    Pat

Pat, I've downloaded around 13000 photos from this website in the past (and checked most of them for interesting information). At the time you could check the albums as a whole, but now all photos appear to be listed individually.

To download the photos, I used a downlad manager (FDM) and configured a few 'batch' downloads. I'd recommend setting the file name to match the number of the photo (use (*) as a wildcard) and make sure to add .jpg to the end.
I'll add a better explanation if people need it. Since I'm not a fan of using this much bandwith of websites, I could assemble several zip files and upload them to a file-sharing service.

The website has an unusual combination of material, much of it actually with German origin. It's possible some came from ECPAD, but I'm not sure.

    Hi Niels,

I guessed you would have found this archive before now - when I came across a shot of a Panther with the radio number on the turret, I was going to email you the link, but then I thought "naw...he's seen it already" :D

It would be great if you could put together some zip files for us and I can give you access to my ADrive account if you require space. The files can then be made available in the 'Advanced Researcher' area of the forum.

I noted last night that there appears to be a number of scattered 'pairs' or sometimes even more of the same location, Sherman wreck, Horsa glider or whatever in the archive. The German's obviously had loads of Agfa film to shoot off - great for us in attempting to tie down locations.

Many thanks for your efforts Niels.

    A Panther carrying number 219, Pat? ;)

Actually I noticed some new series have been added. Will take time to check all this. Among the new albums that look promising are 566000 and 565000.

Series I already have are listed below. I did select those mainly because they appeared to contain interesting WW2 photos.

    Set I do have:
    64000-64999
    66000-66999
    72000-75999
    80000-87999
    121000-121999
    159000-159999
    161000-162999
    180000-180999
    190000-190999

If other people want to join in, just focus on the missing numbers. One warning, it seems they block your IP after downloading 10.000 photos. LOL. But maybe it's just a coinsidence.

    Problem??

    Hello there,

Thanks for the link. I had a quick look yesterday, all worked fine.

This morning, every option I chose results in this:

Any ideas how to get around this?

    Cheers,

    Sean

    RE: Problem??

    Hi Sean,

I think we have activated some form of viewing limitation. I got the same screen last night. I'll try emailing them tonight to see if we can get in the front door.

    Regards,

    Pat

    Pat and Sean,
Just to let you know, I had just tried to view this same website for the first time today and got the same result as you did with the red symbol on the screen.
So it doesnt seem to be a limitation problem.
I wish it worked because I enjoy browsing photos...
