Hi All, The Ebay reconnaissance photo which I recently purchased has arrived from the seller. Below is a down sized version: I have the photo scanned at 800dpi giving a TIFF file size of 326MBs, which is downloadable by members with 'Researcher' status (password required) from the ADrive 'cloud' here. If the file size is creating download problems, just send me a PM and I'll upload a smaller version. No sortie number is visible and all I can be sure of is that its from an American sortie as per the half arrow collimation marks. Anyone hazard a guess as to where we should commence searching? Thanks, Pat
Tough question. Based on the positions I wonder if this is a Flak hot-spot. If it is, it might be a good clue. There were two routes into Normandy that were protected by Flak. The left one ran approximately from Châteaubriant to Feugères to Marigny. The right on ran from Le Mans to Alençon to Falaise to Caen. Clustering 16 positions in such a small area seems a bit much though, although some may have been dummies/bait
Hi All, some observations: top right corner are a few houses visible. One of the smaller roads going through the area. Maybe single lane. If I scale this for the whole picture I think we are looking to an area ~ 1km square the most. Visible traces seem to indicate not a lot of ground activity/fighting in this place. This seem to support the theory the cluster gun positions were dummy positions. If the date of the picture= 9th August is in relation to the advance than we may have to look maybe to northern Brittany.
Thanks Guys, Working on another quest this afternoon, but when I get a chance, I want to markup a copy with the laneways and what I take to be a water course visible. Back later. Regards, Pat
